Playing a different game of jiu jitsu PDF
Thursday, 16 October 2008

Prof Britto was back tonight so I went to do some no gi and gi classes.  I have been reading and watching alot about Helio Gracies philosophy of jiu jitsu after getting to train under Prof Lebre last week. Guys's got Helio signature on his GI!

Tonight wasnt too bad...showed up and met Andre Dida in the hallway...he hinted that he was sticking around in Toronto so that strengthens Toronto BJJ's foundation even more..Dida is teaching Muay Thai and training Jorge in MMA. UDL is in the place! Dida's achievements are extensive. I will write up a profile soon enough. Check out his fight video below

So with no gi I got pretty much skooled. We learn a couple of submissions from taking the guys back then rolled. Always a challenge working with bigger guys but my game now is focused on relaxing.

"Maintain balance or return to it if you have become unbalanced. Just breath out." Royce Gracie

There is a fine line between being relaxed and being too relaxed. You still need that explosiveness

Training with the Gi was better..Jorge is getting us ready for Joslin's Open now so we all have a common focus...I think he wants at least 60 competitors

Good training specific and then rolling was fun...working my sweeps now and relaxing so it's a new game to me..I feel I have broken through the wall I had hit pre Bravado. It's patience. You gotta have patience.

It's fun to work on top but I need to work on the submission setups. Rolled for 20 minutes after class and got tapped but my opponent was a blue belt heavyweight and I feel I executed my game plan. I had control for most of the sparring then i lost it and he got a quick sub...all good xp points for my jiu jitsu character

The road to Joslins continues...
