Eu estou pronto

I checked into Athletes Care this week hoping to get the green light to go back to Jiu Jitsu. I was seeing a new Chiropractor, Jim, who was highly recommended by some of my team mates. He has worked with many people from the academy including Professor Britto and Dida..
I was first seen by Neil (Jim's assistant) who took me through the first stages of assessment and when Jim came in and gave him some instructions about what to be looking for - right away I could tell they knew way more than my physiotherapist about the injury and also - this was not going to be like physio.

Gracie Garage Office Edition
Off the Mat - Living BJJ
Wednesday, 30 June 2010 23:37
In a previous article I've written about my desire to teach Jiu Jitsu at some stage and I also did a feature about the Gracie Garage where, through the Gracie Academy you can set up your own certified DIY dojo in your home...
The subject of me showing people Jiu Jitsu came up at work this week just in a random chat about things we could do to be team building ideas in and around the office but in 1 sentence we had also moved onto a totally different subject.
But the idea has taken root. I think doing a Gracie Garage Office Edition might be a great idea.
What is required in a space...mats and a few people to show up. We tried this with Yoga classes apparently on an unused floor before.
So I went to a member of the social commitee today and pitched the idea and they seemed to like it. You could run a 2 hour class after work 1 night and go over some basics. I would hope that after 3 years training I could offer them some sort of guidance although it also goes against my belief that you should not really be teaching at a blue belt level but my beliefs get tested all the time in jiu jitsu so prove me wrong!
When you speak to people around the office - particularly the +40 year olds I get a sense that I would have willing participants. 'I just don't have time' is something I hear alot "but I would love to try it" and if you reach those people with kids they may fall in love with jiu jitsu and perhaps go a sign up at an academy - with their kids!
And for members of our Street team (I work in Radio) it would be good to know what to do if you are out in the city and you ever need to protect yourself.
Not saying it's gonna happen for sure but at the very least it shows I am team player which is always good in the industry...it's very cut throat.
I can teach them how to choke the throat instead.

Fedor vs. Fabricio (Gracie Breakdown) Ryron and Rener Gracie breakdown Fabricio Werdum's Triangle choke which he used to beat Fedor Emelianenko. The triangle which Werdum locked onto Fedor will probably go down in the books as one of the most important uses of Jiu Jitsu in MMA history. Fedor is widely regarded as the world's best fighter and he ultimately was submitted by one of BJJ's fundamental moves. Here are the son's of the founder of the UFC breaking down the move and how it happened. Oh and check some bonus material while you are here...

Reintegration into fighting
On the Mat - Training Diary
Thursday, 24 June 2010 19:17

tunnelMagic words were spoken to me today.

I had a really interesting amount of 'experienced' feedback on a comment I made on facebook about wanting to quit physio. Because of all the input I had made a few decisions. I know fighting is not my particular physio's realm of expertise and acupuncture was leaving me sore the next day. I was going to ask for an alternative to needles and I was going to engage my therapist today. No small talk is needed. Knowledge can be gained by both of us...I can tell her about grappling (she even said today about 'when you punch' - so I explained to her there is no punching) and I can ask her more questions when she is doing her thing.

If your friend wrote a song for a songwriting contest that required votes which you spent time voting for and promoting...then they come back to you and say "oops I didnt read the rules properly for the contest so I am pulling out now because I don't want to win the prize - but thanks to the votes I might get a record deal"

How would you feel?
