Football? Not me. World Cup? Ok Maybe. I'll be surrounded by soccer fans anyways so I am sure I will get sucked into the football fever this summer. Toronto is very multi cultural and at times like this all the colours of the world's flags spill onto the streets.
But it's also getting deeper into our competition season and what I've been enjoying is my (mostly BJJ) Twitter and Facebook feed recently as I'm watching popular fighters like Hilary Williams, Felipe Costa and Cobrinha put in the final preparations in for these big tournaments at their respective schools..and all the Jiu Jitsu bloggers and news sites are updating with all the latest preparations as all the various cities and countries prepare to play host to many of the international competitions.
Within days we have the Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship (8th to 11th Irvine, California, USA) and then we have he World Pro JJ Cup (15th – 17th Abu Dhabi, Arab Emirates)
I have been enjoying more than my on line updates - the preparations the team has been making at our school also. There has been also of intensive training going on to get our team mates ready for those who will be attending these events.
Thomas Beach and Michael Zaniekiski will be representing our team at the World Pro JJ Cup and we also have a small team, including our World Champion Melissa Biscardi, going to the Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships. I'm excited for everybody going and will this week be at the academy helping my friends put in the final sparring sessions before heading to Pearson International Airport. I'll make it to Pan Am's sometime..
I actually hope I will be making my international debut this summer at the Rio Open (22nd to 25th Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), as part of the Gracie Tijuca / Rio Sport Tour camp and before that there is Copa Ontario in 3 weeks (which will probably have about 200+ Toronto BJJ fighters...can you imagine that army?)
Football? Not me. World Cup 2010? Ok Maybe. I'll be surrounded by soccer fans anyways so I am sure I will get sucked into the football fever this summer. Toronto is very multi cultural and at times like this all the colours of the world's flags spill onto the streets.
But it's also getting deeper into our competition season.
