The whole Jiu Jitsu community is excited by this $10,000 super fight as the rivalry between the 2 featherweights has been intensifying recently after Mendes (Atos) ended Cobrinha's (Alliance) attempt at becoming the first 5 time World Champion this year by way of the 50/50 guard. Cobrinha made it clear after his loss at Mundials to Mendes that he was unhappy that he did not get to perform his Jiu Jitsu due to the use of the 50/50 guard by Mendes who ended up winning by points.
Many people around the water coolers have discussed this fight giving credit to Mendes for playing a tactical game while other support Cobrinha's claim that 'Jiu Jitsu is about the Submission' Rafael has not yet committed to the fight but his camp and teacher, Ramon Lemos, have given indications that the fight will go ahead in October Personally I am stoked for this fight. Cobrinha is threatening retirement and a win would be a great way to end on top. It would be a great chance for both guys to display their game and the loser will be the guy who tires first - with no excuses. Is Cobrinha's time is over? Is Rafa is the greatest Jiu Jitsu fighter at featherweight? Time will tell.
