As a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,  specifically Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu, I proudly study at Toronto BJJ under Black Belt - Professor Jorge Britto.

(Jiu Jitsu Lineage - Helio Gracie > Royler Gracie > Vini Aieta / Saulo Ribeiro > Jorge Britto > Me)

I have been learning jiu jitsu since June 2007 and am currently a blue belt.

I used to be a DJ and moved to Canada from Northern Ireland in 1999. But almost 10 years later my life was very different. So I decided just after I turned 30 to rebuild myself as a combat athlete. I was keen on learning more about ground fighting after getting hooked on MMA through the UFC. After several months of jiu jitsu and submission wrestling, with the occasional kick boxing and boxing classes thrown in, I am now at competition level for brazilian jiu jitsu and compete as often as I can at local tournaments.

I have really taken jiu jitsu as being a way to live my life. I am on a long road to get my black belt. It's almost like I have started high school again except this time I will leave with more than a c average.

And so the story really begins...

The main goal of this website is to promote the team at Toronto BJJ and to be an online journal as I go from white belt to black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It's a regular Joe's 30 something story about trying to learn 'the gentle art'. But there is also a community aspect to ScottOnTheNet. Many readers take part in the facebook page discussions or get updates through Twitter about daily things being talked about in the world of Jiu Jitsu. I would encourage you to drop by the facebook page and say hello!

I am fortunate to be apart of a burgeoning MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) academy based in Toronto Ontario. As our academy grows so does the fight count of our instructors in pro MMA fights. Our instructors are the highest level in Canada at their chosen discipline and that is translated by many team successes we enjoy in competition BJJ. I also get to train with BJJ and MMA legends such as Jorge Britto, Xande and Saulo Ribeiro, Royler Gracie, Andre Galvao, Rafael Lovato Jr, Regis Lebre, Mauricio Shogun Rua and more.

My Instructors include

  • (BJJ )
    • Jorge Britto - BJJ Black Belt under Royler Gracie and Vini Aieta - CCF Lightweight Champion
    • Eduardo Dib - BJJ Brown Belt under Vini Aieta
    • Thomas Beach - BJJ Purple Belt under Jorge Britto
    • Ahmad  Zahabi - BJJ Brown Belt

  • (Wrestling )
    • Jorge Britto
    • Fred Ferari

  • (MUAY THAI)
  •
    • Mauricio Veio - Evolucao Thai
    • Andre Dida Amade - K1 Japan, Evolucao Thai

One of the main reasons for doing this also is that I find there is a lack of websites promoting Ontario Jiu Jitsu, Toronto BJJ and grappling events so I plan to highlight these as best I can.

This project also gives me something practical to do with my knowledge of running websites. If you have any questions - hit me up in the contact page

However you found this site - thanks for stopping by !
