The emails started flying around today.
What are the plans for next weekend? Who's driving to Montreal? When are we leaving?
And that knot in the stomach. In Just over a week from now our Team will be representing Toronto BJJ at the biggest tournament this year so far - The Abu Dhabi Pro Trials.
I honestly think our team has the opportunity to not only shut out some divisions but we have a good chance of sending over some fighters to The United Arab Emirates for the Pro Finals. We have some very strong competitors.
My aim is to close out the lightweight division with my team mates. And if that happens then I will consider Absolutes. I am really not looking past my division's podium so I am planning for 6 fights. Having had my Blue Belt for year it feels very comfortable now. I also have a 'game' to get into. It's a new experience to be really alert during the fight and enjoying the moment... understanding the rules a little more... checking the clock and score boards. Ready to smash my opponents.
Last year I went 3/3 over 4 local tournaments. (1-1)(0-1)(0-1)(2-0). MY successes usally come in the Masters Divisions (+30) but I need to be able to hang with the younger cats too..Even at the club I work better with the slow and methodical approach but I have put in the time and will be ready to roll with the fast and explosive fighters too. The Team training has been of great benefit. We push each other alot and this makes us stronger. It's staggering the amount of knowledge you can gain from those around you.
Again...bottom of the division as normal in weight as I am still only hovering around 150lbs but I don't think that will change anything except I can eat like a horse until competition day.
So here we go into the last week of training before the first Road trip of 2010!
And good luck to Professor Britto who will be in Edmonton defending his CCF Lightweight Championship belt this weekend. My money is on a pretty quick win. Bring back the Belt and let's go to Montreal!

It's a new experience to be really alert during the fight and enjoying the moment... understanding the rules a little more... checking the clock and score boards. Ready to smash my opponents and choke them out. That's the plan. Last year I went 3/3 over 4 local tournaments. (1-1)(0-1)(0-1)(2-0). My successes usually come in the Masters Divisions (+30) but I need to be able to hang with the younger cats too..Even at the club I work better with the slow and methodical approach but I have put in the time and will be ready to roll with the fast and explosive fighters too. The Team training has been of great benefit. Every instructor has pushed us. And we in turn push each other even more. And we always share many ideas..and this makes us stronger in the mind. It's staggering the amount of knowledge you can gain from those around you. I am sharing as often as I can the details I find that work in my 'chokes' which appear to be my weapon of choice. And now when my attack is countered it makes me consider how I can trap you in the submission by other ways.
And on that note I will wrap this one up - talk to you on facebook Hope you are training hard Scott ABU DHABI DETAILS Registration/Weigh ins: March 5th 2010, 12:00pm - 8:00pm at Lord Berri Hotel |
