If your friend wrote a song for a songwriting contest that required votes which you spent time voting for and promoting...then they come back to you and say "oops I didnt read the rules properly for the contest so I am pulling out now because I don't want to win the prize - but thanks to the votes I might get a record deal"
How would you feel?
If you have been following the Story of Rener Gracies attempt to get a reality TV show through an Oprah contest you might know that he has pulled the idea out of the running.
Why?
Because they toally mis-read the rules.
In a statement released in their Gracie Insider Newsletter he says:
"The Misunderstanding After several weeks in first place in the Oprah Winfrey Network OWN Show Contest, we realized we were running the wrong race! When Rener originally applied for the contest, he thought he that he was entering for a chance to have his own Bullyproof reality show on the Oprah Winfrey network. A deeper investigation, which included phone conversations with OWN executives, revealed that the finalist would become participants in an "Apprentice-like" reality show contest that would have the contestants doing various challenges to see who would become America's next major talk show host. Even though that would generate lot's of publicity, Rener's heart is set on the Bullyproof show as it was originally envisioned and has no interest in participating in a reality talk show contest. As a result, he has decided to pull out of the OWN talk show contest so that he can pursue the original Bullyproof show concept."
The GREAT News Now that we got the misunderstanding out of the way, let's talk about the good news. Because of the relentless dedication of thousands of extended Gracie family members, we were able to maintain the first-place spot in the contest for several weeks. In doing so, we were able to get the attention of several VERY powerful executives at some of the most reputable TV networks in the world (for confidentiality reasons we can't say which ones). In each case, the executive was captivated by Rener's audition video and shocked by the thousands of positive comments submitted by the voters (you guys). So essentially, our success in the Oprah contest gained us the visibility needed to make the Bullyproof show come to life without having to participate in the reality talk show contest, and for that we couldn't be more thankful. We will keep you informed of the progress as we meet with different TV networks."
...back to the analogy...my friend will hopefully remember me when they are rich and famous...
I would for sure give my friend a hard time but they are not Black Belts or trying to help kids...so I guess I will let Rener off the hook...this time.
I will just look for all our names in the credit roll..
