Don't muscle - move.
On the Mat - Training Diary

A week ago I had the chance to roll with my teacher during class and I thought I was doing pretty well. But after the roll what I was told was that I had been trying to smash my Professor. PORRA! It was not intentional and earlier in the night a different instructor had told me I was being too nice!

So I was a bit confused as I thought I had perhaps rolled better then I had done before with him so we spoke and he basically said he had been giving me a chance and I was muscling him instead of moving.

Moving.

Moving more.

Moving more will regardless cause your opponent to react and isn't that what we are looking for?

It took a few days for that lesson to sink in and for me to stop (mentally) licking my paws and this week, intentionally, I decided that I would move alot more. No muscling. Every time I got in a bad position (many times this happened) I would just see what part of my body I could move and start to do something. Or even when working on top where I might 'hold' before I tried to just keep going to a better position or simply go into some crazy position (many times this happened).

The important thing is that there was a lesson hidden in the lesson Jorge gave me.

Move. Simple.

...and that I need to lighten up and not be so serious. Had I a witty answer like 'talk to me when I am on the Podium' I may never have digested the real meaning ot those 6 minutes.
