Some 'top of mind' thoughts as we grapple with the last month of summer 2010
Helping 1st Day class Tommy asked me to introduce the front roll / back roll / hip escapes last week to 2 new white belts. I really enjoyed this. I like to be able to teach and would obviously one day like to be involved with this. Thanks to Tommy for asking me to help. It was a real pleasure.
BJJ Camp envy All the camps are underway in Brazil (including the one I could have been apart of). I am a little sad seeing all the things pop up on my facebook feed showing everybody having a great time but know that with another year planning and savings - my plan to get to Rio will still happen...hopefully in 2011. I have to check out Acai! If it is as good as Coconut water I might have a winning smoothie idea...
The Toronto Jiu Jitsu Classic The competition is this weekend. My plan for this tournament is to arrive about 30 minutes before I compete and just jump into warm up then fight. I don't want to hang out there all day before I fight. I get too worked up and start to feel grimey having my Gi on and continually warming up. I will take in the rest of the event after I have competed. 157 Competitors have registered as I am writing this.
The shoulders Are feeling OK. They still ache and can keep me awake at night but it is passing. I have increased training so I expect them to remind me they are here. But I accidentally have had 3 days rest (due to sleeping in's and a bank holiday) so they should be well rested. I have decided to stop doing therapy now and get on with it.
Take small victories Sometimes successes can be measured on such a small level that they go unnoticed. If you are having a tough time training but you are able to identify 1 small thing you did that was better than it was before - even if it is just stopping someone from mounting you who always mounts you - make sure you recognise this for what it is. Getting better. Little by little. Day by day. Pat yourself on the back or do whatever you do but make sure you connect with the moment. For the victory may be small but you can take it for yourself and make it yours.
Dojo Sessions I If you like Dubstep - don't forget to check out a DJ mix I put together to listen to while rolling. Take over your academies sound system and throw in an hour of Music for Machines...complete with words from the Ribeiro Brothers themselves..
