If you follow the Fightworks Podcast - The Audio home of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the web, you will have heard about the recent war of words between members of the Gracie Family.

Isn't the net great? Not only can you watch and learn Jiu Jitsu with on line tutorials - but we get public displays of Gracie family pride that allow us to put the arguments about the lineage of Jiu Jitsu into better perspective.

I wrote a quick article about this last week.

Words spoken by Relson Gracie about Carlos Snr and Helio and the roots of Orginal Jiu Jitsu prompted a passion rebuttle by Renzo Gracie. During this interview Renzo made several swipes, indirectly, to Rener Gracie and the Gracie Academy in Miami. So Rener came on the Fightworks Podcast this weekend to explain his side of the story (mostly about what they mean by 'they teach the original Jiu Jitsu in Miami')

I honestly don't wish to transcribe (nor do I intend to) what was said over the 3 weeks because there is simply too much covered ( But The fightworks Podcast have done this)  but Rener was able to walk up to the Gracie Family Stove and turn all the boiling pots down to simmer and even invited his uncle to come kick his ass - as the Gracie family have probably done for years.

Rener explains the Original Jiu Jitsu Helio put together is a defensive system that cannot be taught by any instructor who teaches MMA or sport BJJ as the concept is defence - not offence. And that is at the heart of what Helio put forward.

But there is no denying, as Renzo says, we are all messengers of those who have gone before us and regardless of which Gracie can claim to be the originator we can all benefit from each element that each family member brought to the art.
