Fighting through the burn
By the time I leave work each day, I'm usually pretty brain dead from looking at a computer screen for 8 hours. I get home and my brain always shuts off and I usually end up napping until 7p then I will head to 8p class. If I want to train at 7p then I have to grab a 15 minute power nap. It's always tough to peel myself back off my couch or bed. But I always hear the calling and within minutes I find myself on the subway. Thats my time now for taping my fingers. But I hate the feeling of tape on my fingers and usually rip it all off after a while...
As soon as I walk through the door at school the commaraderie that I love so much just washes over me as you are suddenyl emersed and surrounded by fighters training hard in the class downstairs at Toronto BJJ. Fist bumps, slaps on backs, catching the eyes of your friends as if to say 'Yup - Workin' hard, that's what we do'. By the time I arrive upstairs to the Dojo I've transformed myself from a tired web designer to a martial artist.
Warm up KILLED me last night in NOGI - I always know the NOGI class is going to be tough and leave me with less in the tank for GI class.  Last night the warm up involved tossing another man around like a rag doll and it took it's toll fast. But I recovered slowly after the final set of drills and then sparring was fine. I guess I could work on my conditioning. Doing NOGI helps with my transition speed and challenges you to think without grips. But there is not too much time for thinking. It's react and GO!
I still prefer training with my GI. I prefer the speed and control working in your GI offers. But at tonights 8pm class again I just felt 'burnt out' and kinda struggled to come alive...When I rolled I was working on some stuff Coach Tommy advised me to do and still working to pass the guard.
It would be easier to finish work and come home and do nothing productive and thats why we don't do that. Because this should not be easy. it's a hard road but I'm walking on it, pushing forward best I can.

I'm sure like me many of you juggle 'something else full time' and BJJ; work, school, kids (do you juggle kids?) or volunteering perhaps. For me it's my job which is often more than just 9-5. Whats the first thing I do after training? Check my phone/work...sad face
