Game Changing Techniques
On the Mat - Training Diary

When you train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you get taught 100 techniques and you might retain or use a small percentage of those. Many moves are either too advanced or not for your body type or don't fit your game.

But when you go to class and you learn a technique that you know will change your game without question; because it either works perfectly for your style or it's something that simply 'makes sense' it can be really exciting.

If you have watched any of my fight videos you see I usually get into De La Riva guard but have a tough time moving past it for whatever reason. Maybe the guys is too strong or I am trying to work a choke (probably) or I am just hanging out without a real intention or ability to sweep. But tonight. Professor Britto demonstrated a De La Riva sweep / way to take the back that I know is going to be added to my game in a big way.

It's like I added, not a small tool to me toolkit but a big hammer I can pull out and do real damage with! I was clapping my hands and soaking it all up!

Needless to say I am alot more excited to fight this weekend as I think the technique we learned has opened up a whole new series of moves that I have never entered competition with. It has made me more comfortable with going out and playing my game (which usually starts from me being on my back).

And that's got me real excited to fight at Grapplers Quest this weekend! I can't wait to take to the Tatami's!
