This weeks BJJ classes both revealed nice techniques including clock chokes, taking the mount and taking the back. On Thursday at 2nd class I was pushed in 'The Shark tank' (which is where you stay rolling for multiple rounds against fresh guys) and I had several tough rolls with our young white belts who can keep a relentless pace. 'No Crying Scott' - Professor Britto remarking on my gasping at the end of about 6 rounds...I guess what doesn't kill us ..right?
The backs of my legs were dead from Nicole's work out on Tuesday. We are working on stabilizing and improving my balance and core at the minute. I am half way through 'Phase 1' and filling out my daily 'adherence plans' but already can feel the benefits of additional strength and conditioning. The exercises that I am doing are all very creative and specific to Jiu Jitsu and Nicole is doing a great job of explaining why we are going through these motions as well as encouraging me when my body begins to shake and shudder while working. Those moments, when you are face to face with yourself in a mirror are brutally honest. the shoulder gets tired quicker than I would like but I work through the dull burning sensation.
I'm back on the protein shakes and supplements - I'm always hungry. I usually find myself in front of my fridge at 3am stuffing something into my face. Many nights I am stopping at a Vietnamese or Korean restaurant and tucking into some post training noodles or soup. Being a bachelor and not having much spare time - I have no real interest in cooking. I trying to source convenient, cost effective healthy options and Asian food is meeting those needs ;) Thanks to my route home from the Academy I have tonnes of selections. At work too I am eating high protein meals for brunch and lunch. Still have to start to cut out the sugar but my latest grocery shop should provide me with lots of good eating which is something Nicole wants to make sure I am doing alot of.
Sadly I had to miss a few BJJ classes this week due to work burning me out and committments with other projects (screw you - life - getting in the way of training) but I will be making up for that by re-adding a NO Gi class into the routine this week (the first since my shoulder injury) plus finishing the first phase of Nicoles program so I will bring the camera in for an update.
I have this quote in my head I got somewhere:
"Out-train yourself" - that's just what I am trying to do!
