On the Mat - Training Diary

Don't diss my #skilletsensations on TwitpicTraining is picking up and it feels good to be gradually building things back to full speed. Professor Britto has organized a team training schedule and those classes have been pretty high intensity as we get ready for the upcoming competition season.

The goal for this year is to gain about 10 lbs and move from the bottom of the lightweight division to closer to the top (in weight). I'm just under 155lbs right now. I noticed last year that the Masters divisions may not be as fast as the adult divisions but what is lacked in speed is increased and present in sheer strength. I have always hovered around the bottom of lightweight so with a new strength program in place

I am working with my strength coach Nicole Dinn again and she is designing a 7 month program that will focus on strength and gaining mass and should have me peaking in performance at The Rio Masters. During our initial training program for Grapplers Quest we focused more on explosive speed and high repetitions, super sets and such. Now I will be lifting more weights in an effort to add some lb's on.

I have a ridiculous metabolism which keeps me very lean so I am having to increase my food intake as well as getting back on the high calorie protein shakes.

With the new program taking shape I have to listen to both my coaches. Jorge and Nicole are there to guide me. Nicole has requested that I make sure I am balancing my training correctly asd I am trying to gain weight so for the next few weeks I will be pulling back on NOGI training and increasing lifting weights which will include some nights where I have to train BJJ then go and do some heavy lifting. Jorge has explained that the main thing I should be doing if I am a Jiu Jitsu fighter, is Jiu Jitsu. So with both coaches guiding me I am hoping for good things in 2011.There are no secrets. There is just training.
