Maintaining balance
On the Mat - Training Diary
Friday, 18 February 2011 14:37

If life is about balance then the last few weeks have been heavily in tilted into the 'work' side of things but like my Professor says 'it's about doing your best everyday in everything' - so work it was (and still is). But it's funny how fast things like motivation can begin to get stolen away from you. Even on Wednesday night - I got in from work and didn't make it to class again because I was burnt out. I then ate junk food. I felt horrible the next morning.

So as I sucked a smoothie for breakfast yesterday I knew I would be at class for 2 hours in the evening and with that in mind I used the day to dial in a little more.

Thursday's 2 hour class was very tough. The first class was technique - 2 Dela Riva Sweeps that Professor Britto uses. After training the specific we got a roll in to finish the first hour. The second hour then bagged me. It was all drills which were separated with sets of burpee's, sprawls, push ups. It red lined me but I was at least able to roll and still get through it right to the end without skipping any sparring.

But it was hard. And I was a bit of a mess at the end doing the last sets (30 sprawls - run to the other side of the mat and do 30 burpees X 3 sets).

I really needed the push too. When you are in the midst of carrying out your Professors instructions there should be no thoughts of 'I Can't'. Sure you can. 'Mentalization' as Professor Britto would say.

Unfortunately when I got home I had tonnes of work to do (Thank you Britney Spears and Lady Gaga) and I had a broken sleep. Today I think I have a chest infection so I left work early to get some meds and grab more fruits...and maybe I can train tonight...depending.

Looking forward to Montreal next week and joining the rest of the Britto Army as we step onto the competition mats for the first time in 2011 at the World Pro Trials.

And there have been some developments in the Road to Rio. "You want to come to Rio?" asked my Professor at the end of class... 'You bet' I replied. "Alright - How about this idea..."

More to come very soon...
