We were going to be sending a huge team so I thought it was a good tournament to set out to do well in.

With an 11 week training program (sort of) completed, injuries and a few set backs to contend with we arrived at the Canada Building of London's Western Fair and I weighed in at 153lbs. For the first time I would be competing in a 169lb division. There were alot of Toronto BJJ fighters weighing in with us Friday night. We stayed in a hotel close to the venue, ate well with friends at a Chinese buffet and then relaxed.

In the morning we arrived early. There were 12 mats and the kids and teens kicked things off. My (Executive) division was up before the Adults and just before the Super fight with Saulo Ribeiro and Joao Assis. So we established our space in the stands and began watching the kids do their thing.

To prepare for my fights, I had a warm up on hand that Nicole had given me and tried to stick to it as best I could. I kept moving and jogging around. By the time I stepped onto the mat I was hyped up and ready to go. Unfortunately there was a false start as after I was fired up they announced the Saulo fight was about to start...which then didn't so I had to 'recharge' myself.. There were 4 guys in my NO GI division and my first fight was against a GQ referee. I later found out he was also a Black Belt. I was doing OK until I gave him my neck in a move I was warned not to attempt only a few classes before. In my bronze medal fight I got a take-down and then sat in a defensive position for the entire time. I was calculating my later GI fights and went for a safe victory and a bronze medal. No sign of my injuries being an issue either.

The time schedule started to drift off and my GI division ended up not taking place until the very end of the day around 8pm I think. By this stage I had warmed up and cooled down several times and was getting a bit tired from hanging about which is the biggest drag at a grappling event. There were only 2 vendors too so the distractions were limited.
