http://thefightworkspodcast.com/images/rafael-lovato-jr.jpgI remember as a kid when I used to give substitute teachers hell when they showed up to take class. We would assume our friends names for role call or act up every time their backs turned to the class by launching anything we could find at them. Pieces of sandwiches were always a favourite.

At most schools substitute teachers are usually 'rookies' working their way up through the ranks. Jiu Jitsu schools, and mine in particular, are the total opposite.

One of America's most accomplished and decorated Jiu Jitsu fighters returns to Canada this week to lead some summer training at Toronto BJJ. It's been a hectic year for Rafael Lovato Jr having competed at all the major Jiu Jitsu and Grappling events including, Grapplers Quest, Mundials, The Brasileiro, Pan Am's PLUS as leading his Oklahoma team into many BJJ Opens. He recently also received his second stripe on his black belt from Royler Gracie (having been a BB for 6 years) and got married. Not a bad first half of 2010.

To kick off the second half of the year (I don't think this will be much of a Holiday) Rafael will be touching down at Toronto BJJ. He will be taking all Jorge's classes in the afternoon and evenings with support from Dudu or Tommy and will be teaching both NO GI and GI classes.

It doesnt matter if this is your first opportunity to train with Rafael or if this will be your second chance to learn from him. We have a huge opportunity to experience his unique style of teaching and methods. I recall he has some sick 'flow drills' that he may introduce us to. Plus we could talk at length about his crazy open guard. I'm excited for a good week of training. 'Like School in Summertime'!

Rafael Lovato Jr will be teaching Monday through Friday.

This is what separates Toronto BJJ from many other academies. We never have a shortage of World Class teachers. We are always taken care of when Professor Britto goes on Vacation. Josh Rapport, the manager of Toronto BJJ always makes sure we have the best training at the school. Just earlier this year we had Xande Ribeiro spend a week with us before Copa Ontario and now Rafael Lovato Jr returns for his second visit just before The Toronto Jiu Jitsu Classic.
