I had a really interesting amount of 'experienced' feedback on a comment I made on facebook about wanting to quit physio. Because of all the input I had made a few decisions. I know fighting is not my particular physio's realm of expertise and acupuncture was leaving me sore the next day. I was going to ask for an alternative to needles and I was going to engage my therapist today. No small talk is needed. Knowledge can be gained by both of us...I can tell her about grappling (she even said today about 'when you punch' - so I explained to her there is no punching) and I can ask her more questions when she is doing her thing. So I walked in and again she welcomed me by 'Robert' I corrected her again but really - after so many sessions you would think by now she would know my name more than what the computer says. And right out of the game I mentioned the needles and I asked for an alternative...and she said no problem and then immediately said "I think it's time to re-intergrate you into fighting and I know that I don't know alot about what you do so I have spoken to another person here called Jimmy who knows all about grappling and he is going to get you back training. I've got you over the hump to where you needed to be and now he will help you make modifications for some of your techniques. Jimmy was talking about a triangle pose you do or something and I think he will be able to better guide you from here" Triangle pose? So I got another session with Laser therapy and a more focused session where I asked many questions about what she was doing and I spoke alot about what Jiu Jitsu is about just incase she ever gets another one of us to work with. I said things like "Oh acupuncture is all a placebo effect' just to see what she would say. I feel great tonight and have all my range of motion back...still slightly sore but not much. I can start swimming and I am going to see Jimmy next week and I hope that I get the green light to return with his guidance on what I should and shouldn't be doing. It's exciting just to daydream now about getting back to training. I'll spend the next week preparing with running and stretching with some swimming but no weights. I have to wait and see what is prescribed next week but it's good to be the 'reintegration stage'
Just a note - The Dr @ the Athletes Care is cover by OHIP (Ontario's Health Coverage) but physio is $75 for 1/2 hour / $50 for 20 minutes. I am fortunate to have health benefits through work but not 100% but I am paying upfront for it and have to claim it back...I do not yet know Chiro or Massage costs...
