Master Royler Gracie spent 2 weeks in Canada in April with the first week being in Ontario. As well as visiting RGDA schools, the legendary Black Belt was guest at Copa Ontario. So while Royler was in Toronto he spent some time at our school enjoying some training and a seminar.

The seminar at Toronto BJJ was another great opportunity to learn from one of the sports biggest legends.

Royler's seminars really focus on Gracie Jiu Jitsu's self defense aspects. The first hour we spent time learning how to control an aggressor on the street with the emphasis being on diffusing the situation and protecting yourself while being able to put your attacker on his back with a throw or takedown. The second hour focused on some ground work where we learnt some submissions (some easy to execute - some will take more time to develop).

With stories of his father, life in Brazil, training with Jorge in Rio - there was plenty to keep us enjoying his company and I feel very fortunate to be given the chance to again learn from the master. It's pretty cool to work a technique with 'Royler Gracie' as your partner =)
