I've got to admit. Saulo Ribeiro kinda intimidates me. That might be because he is a high level black belt prodigy or because he is a Judge and Lawyer. Maybe it's a combo. Discipline - it's in his DNA.

I have had the opportunity to train under him several times at Toronto BJJ and I will always remember he was there on the sidelines watching my Grapplers Quest 2010 Final. We wear his patch on our backs. He helped to mould my Professor and one lesson I will always remember he taught me is to in no way try to hurt my training partner with bad technique (elbows in the thighs to open the guard was his example). For some reason I also happen to have his cell phone number programmed in my phone. Let's not gonna call the guy.

Check out a recent interview with the man himself over at 'Tangled Triangle'. In 'Behind the Branding: Saulo Ribeiro' the author Megan (taking the stance that personal branding annoys her) quizzes Saulo on topics such as the origin of the Samurai Logo, his DVD series, his true views on Jiu Jitsu and his academic theme.

You can read the entire interview here:

And if you want to try to wrap your head around all the positions covered in the Jiu Jitsu University book - have a look at this mind map created by one of my team mates.
