"Do You know why Aikido fighters wear those long black pants? It's to hide the footwork". said Ahmad

He is our resident 2nd Degree Brown belt and Saturday Instructor and he had been going over single leg take downs. And I was having problems.

1. My Breathing - these are killing me very fast and leaving me gasping for air

2. My footwork - I knew what to do but it had been several weeks since doing this and basically - I had forgotten what to do. So the move wasn't working for me. No leverage. All strength. (What's that Saulo?)

I had been sleeping for 15 hours and was not 'fueled up'. I came in from work Friday night and crashed. Pretty much until the next morning and as I am not a huge eater in the morning I simply went to class. I am not sure if this messed with my energy but it's not the correct way to start your day.

I was getting a bit frustrated. My wrestling is weak and if I want to improve the above I need to go to more wrestling classes. I am also going to work these on Sundays at open mat. I imagine I will need some takedowns in March at the Abu Dhabi Trials.

As I start to dial in on my first out of province tournament I need to address all of the above. I will start that right now and tomorrow open mat will consist of alot of take down drills...

The silver lining on todays training was I survived 5 minutes with a purple belt who usally taps me continually. We got tied up in my defense of his Triangle and when that happens my opponent has usually ended up in a body triangle due me me sitting on my butt and posturing back allowing my long legs to come over him and lock him up. He laughed at it in good fun because it's kinda funny when you are in it too...But hey...It allowed me to survive

And thanks to Darcy for taking 5 minutes at the end to remind me what I was meant to be doing. Then it all made sense.

A there was even music today! What would Saulo Say? ;)
