Saturday - Team Training It was the first time I have been invited to Team Training and it was a 1st to be training beside Professor Britto. It wasn't a class but a training session that he was taking part in. Just running laps with him was cool.
As we prepare some of our fighters to go to Pan-Am's & the ADCC's (as well as everyone getting ready for Copa Ontario) We did take downs, grip fighting, specific and sparring. But I threw up (Coffee & Gatorade on an empty stomach is not as beneficial as a Bagel or some proper carbs). Having to stop rolling to run to the bathroom is pretty lame but sometimes it happens.
If you are wondering how you get in on this training - simply compete in the tournaments and you will get the call!
Sunday - Tommy taught a set up for an arm-bar from side control then we sparred then it was Open mat. I had some great rolling sessions with some of my team mates during the training where I continued to work on my De La Riva Guard and sweeps/taking the back. I'm enjoying exploring this open guard style.
And open mat felt like some sort of JiuJitsu hippie love in. There was alot of knowledge being exchanged between everyone. I'm enjoying the chance to work with our white and green belts and exchange knowledge and show some things I am learning like Choke details or sweep set ups. It means alot to have this time.
I was eventually kicked off the mats having been on them for 5 hours.
And honestly - I was high from JiuJitsu for the rest of the night. It felt like the end of one of those 'Perfect rave weekends' from over a decade ago..but this time it's an all natural high.
The only downside is that my recent lifestyle changes are playing havoc with my sleeping cycles and I am suffering from insomnia right now. It appears many people and fighters suffer from this and 1 of my team mates has recommended ZMA:
"ZMA is a scientifically designed anabolic mineral formula.* It contains Zinc MonomethionineAspartate plus Magnesium Aspartate and vitamin B-6, and is an all-natural product that clinical testing suggests may significantly increase anabolic hormone levels and muscle strength in trained athletes.
Another benefit is better sleep. ZMA should be taken 30 - 60 minutes before bed. Most people notice they can fall asleep deeper and then sleep more deeply. Don't be surprised if you start having very vivid dreams while taking ZMA!"
I think I will try this supplement to combat my restlessness. I will let you know how it goes. If you have any experience with it - please let me know by leaving a comment!
sidenote: I'm also very busy helping out Professor Britto at the minute with the on line set up and designing creatives for Copa Ontario which I am proud to be part of. There is alot of major developments with this year's Tournament which takes place on April 25 and 26. Stay tuned to ScottOnTheNet
