On the Mat - Training Diary
Friday, 27 November 2009 11:51

Last night Prof Britto taught a very valuable lesson in class - a way to transition from side control - to north south to side control on the other side. It may not seem like a big deal. But for me - I am enjoying side control more and more and now I have many more options when I arrive there - just because I learnt simple details about how to correctly hold the guy and position yourself allowing you to control 'when' you transition. And it is very uncomfortable for your friend. I will definitely be adding this to the tool kit.

Side control is a position that I find validates my Jiu Jitsu. If i can control a guy much larger than me in side control it give me a huge advantage and proves the efficiency - and now I can easily move around more and make it worse for him. I'm just happy I can now keep moving when I get to the position as before I found my options where limited...

EVIL SUPPLEMENTUnfortunately I got very sick in the 2nd class and I will put it down to a bad batch of 5 hour energy.

I've thrown up before while training - usually due to too much Gatorade but this felt like I had been poisoned..I was almost going to go to hospital on the way home but I started feeling better after a shower...

I couldn't keep anything down and was in the bathroom for closing forma (I literally ran away from the line...how lame)

Back on the mat....I've also learned alot of principles by listening back through the Xande Ribeiro Interview I did last week. I have 40 minutes with him so my plan it to cut them into 4 minute sections and put them on the site as a mini series starting this weekend. There is too much valuable info / short attention spans to do it in 1 clip so expect to see the first videos appear on the site this weekend and I hope you get to learn something from one of the sports legends.

Apart from that - I am feeling some sort of spiritual development also. It's hard to define but something is happening internally (emotionally  or mentally - whatever you like to say). Maybe it is a just a deeper understanding of myself that Jiu jitsu is bringing or maybe there is something even bigger at play.

This is a new development for me and not something I was expecting but I am keeping my heart and mind open to anything as I continue down the path of the 'gentle art' as I can feel myself becoming more of a true martial Artist with every week I do this.

This is getting too long for a post now - if you are still reading - thanks for taking the time.

Relson Gracie jiu-jitsups - Go Check out this Relson Gracie Interview by The FightWorks Podcast.  Some great background from Helio Gracies son. "Carlos Gracie never taught jiu-jitsu to us. That is true. Carlos Gracie was the mentor like I said. He always helped in the process of the diet and made Helio Gracie who Helio Gracie was. But jiu-jitsu was built and developed 100% by Helio Gracie. Today it’s still the best jiu-jitsu in the world."
