Washing your GI
On the Mat - Etiquette
Wednesday, 09 December 2009 22:48

Even if you only train for a short time you should wash your GI before you go on the mats the next day.

Not only will your GI be smelly (you don't want a reputation as the guy with the stinky GI) but you are putting yourself and your team mates at risk. How?

Impetigo for a start. Impetigo is a mild staph infection where your skin basically starts attacking itslef and falls off in blisters. You have to go on medication (either pills or cream) and you are highly contagious. You can get this skin infection from a scrape or GI burn that comes in contact with nasty bacteria - the type that would be on a GI that has not been cleaned since the day before...

Speaking as a guy who had Impetigo - it sucked.

And if you do not shower after training you run an even higher risk of getting an infection..

Plus it is lame to roll with a guy who's GI is funky...and he has to notice it too right?

Just hanging it up to air doesn't really work either. A spin cycle should work =)

...just sayin'
