Take Xande Ribeiro warming up for Mundials as a sign of a possible showdown. Now you have to look for the likely opponent. Look no further than Roger Gracie. And the stakes? The coveted title of being the first '3 time Absolute World Jiu Jitsu Champion' In 2009 while at Toronto BJJ Xande made comments about this fight and what it meant to him. Which I took to be pretty important. Unfortunately he could not compete last year due to a knee injury he got while training. Xande Ribeiro at the 2009 BJJ Mundials
Roger Gracie Vs Romulo Barral - 2009
Xande and Roger have had several fights at several tournaments and both have enjoyed wins and losses to each other which makes this possible fight one of the biggest fights ever in Jiu Jitsu. There is alot of history, opinions, facts, fierce loyalty between these fighters and their teams. I haven't been able to find anything online that states that Roger is getting ready for Mundials but that would be because he has a MMA fight for Strikeforce coming up on May 15th against former UFC champion Kevin Randleman. Once that fight has passed it will become more clear as to Roger's intentions for Mundials and whether he will be entering himself to go for the 3rd Absolute Champion title and to add to his (record) 8 Mundial Gold Medals. If you add the MMA media spotlight which could be shone on this fight due to each BJJ Player now being active in Strikeforce and Dream - this will add to the hype machine and the eventual showdown. And when the dust settles only 1 man will be left with his hand raised and the title of Absolute best of the world. 3 times tested.
